Song: I Need A Doctor

The background story and message of "I Need a Doctor" are pretty straightforward, I think. The song starts with Eminem rapping a couple of verses about how Dr. Dre believed in him when no one else would. His presence and support help bring Dre back to life and the world, as evidenced by his awakening and taking possession of the song for himself. This part of the video reverses history, with Eminem stepping in to rescue Dre from oblivion as Dre did for him.
The video ends with Dre looking at Eazy-E's grave. As I understand it, the two of them had a feud that was never resolved before Eazy-E died. The message seems to be that you should stand by your friends, because you never know when you will need them, or they will disappear for good.
The first 2 minutes 14 seconds of this video shows a story, Dr Dre does this by using one of the theory by Andrew Goodwin, which is amplification. This is because he is telling a story through his lyrics but also shows it through his music video by showing clips of previous family and friend videos that he has from his past before his "accident" during the clip. this signifies that his chosen lyrics have meaning and he is trying to portray this ono the audience, as some of the audience may be able to relate to this they will gain a demand for more.
relating this to the hypodermic model we can tell that this makes the audience feel powerful to ressit it which then makes the song turn into a drug becuase they cant get away from the message in which Dr Dre is trying to send.
The mise en scene which is used is very natural and subdued this is because at 2 minutes 27 seconds all of the doctors are wearing clean white doctor jackets to show their importance wihtin the role, also as there are alot of them it shows the auidence how important Dr Dre really is as he has alot of doctors trying to save him . This makes the audience feel like he is a very important person and it will draw them into the video because they will want to see what happens to him after the accident that has happened.
also by the doctors being in white and eminem and skylar dressed differently it is easy to see who has the power at the stage. skayalr is then dressed in a flowing gown it looks like she appeares to be in water as her dress and hair flow in different directions when she moves and she is very elegant which could promote that she is being seen as an angel to save Dr Dre. where as eminem is dressed very casually with baggy jeans and a top, this shows that he is confused and does not know what to do as he is not dressed as if he is in much importance but when he sings to dr dre laying on the bed eminem tells him how much dr dre stood by him when eminem needed him now its the other way around so this shows he is trying to see whether dr dre is listneing to him which links back to the clothes he is weairng because eminem may wanted to feel as if he didnt have to look smart to show how importnt dr dre meant to him.
Linking this to the Richard Dyers Star Theory, it shows that Dr Dre is shown as talented and has creativity to his audience. which links the auidence to the scene of the music video.
The camerwork which is used envolves alot of wide shots and mid shots for example at 4 minutes 5 seconds their is a shot of all 3 artist in the room but centered on skylar as she is the one who is singing also it shows that she has the power because she is above them both and the camera is focused on her and also the room is very dark and eminem and dr dre are in dark clothes where as Skylar is in a white flowing gown which connotes that she may be some type of angel who is able to save them. linking this to the camerwork it is very proffessional of them to have all artist in the same shot, but it is usually differnet aswlel as most wide shots are used within bands to get the whole of a band in the shot, but as these are single solo artist and not a band it connotes that they are still able to work as a team.
when skylar says 'bring me back to life' it makes the scene illistrative because Dr Dre then opens his eyes as she says bring me back, this is to make the scene more appealing and for the audience to focus on him more and as it links with the lyrics it is illistrative.
