What is a music video?
A music video is a short film or video that is used to accompany a piece of music. Music videos are primarily used to market and promote the sale of music recordings, however some bands may choose to create one for purely artistic purposes. they also help to promote the artist to the audience."music video is not primilary a comidity form but a promotional one" this was a quote from Andrew Goodwin in 1992
Kings of Leon is a Rock, Alternative, Pop, Indie band which is known as a hybrid because they not only have one genre they use different genres. They realesed the song in 2008 on the album 'only by the night'. The music video is a performance video this is because most of the video is of the band peforming, this is because it shows the audience that they have alot of talent and skill and are able to sing and performe at the same time which impres the audience. It is also a condictory music video because the video is based around one idea or concept and it contains abstract objects which symbolise a particular idea. In this case it would be when the crows are at the beginning of the music video because they symoblise the watching which is linked to the lyrics.
Mark Wilkinson was born in 18 April 1989. He is known by his stage name Wilkinson, is a British drum and bass music producer and DJ from London. He has released music on RAM Records and Hospital Records. they released the song half light which got over 3 millionvews on youtube.
It is a narrative music video becuase the video shwos the story which links to the lyrics.by doing this it helps the auidence see what the lyrics mean easily. in this case it would be during the music video the man is in the the club when the courous of the song comes on so it shwos that it is a club song.
Owl city where created in 2007, they are an Electronica, synthpop, indietronica and pop band they are hyprid as they have a range of genres to suit different auidences.
The song 'Fire Flies' was realesed in 2009 and got over 150 million veiws.
Owl City have used illustrative music video, for example in this music video Fireflies; when the artist is singing and as he says "fireflies" the word fireflies comes up on the screen to a little toy gadget.
illistrative music videos are sued to incorprate the lyrics ot the video and has a litreal meaning to the the song lyrics.
Star Image (protagonist) music videos are lots of camera shots making him/her the centre of attention. Goodwin referred to the star image a as a very vital aspect of a music video, they making the music video look more appealing to the audiences and bring a unique style to the video in the way he is portrayed.
An exmaple of this is in the A$AP ROCKY video fashion killer you can see that him and the women are protrayed as the protagonist becuase they are the centre of attention of the music video, it is not a perfomrance video though as they are not performing to the camera and are acting natural and showing of there clothes.
Disjuncture is when the music video has absoloutly nothing to do with the song lyrics.
The video Lady gaga- bad roamance is a good example of disjuncture becuase the video has absolutly nothing to do with the lyrics and just features her walking around dancing in strange outfits, and it is having nothing to do with any romance at all.
